Tax breaks on water saving technologies
The Water Technology List (WTL), which provides information on water-saving products that qualify for up-front tax relief, has been expanded to include a new category of grant aid, featuring a range of technologies concerned with the recovery and re-use of waste water.
First-year capital allowances (FYA) are the name given to specially increased rates of allowances. They are sometimes called enhanced capital allowances (ECA’s). FYA’s allow a greater proportion of the cost of an investment to qualify for tax relief against a business's taxable profits of the period during which the investment is made and can provide a helpful cash-flow boost. The ECA scheme for water-efficient technologies grants 100% FYA’s for spending on designated equipment.
Rainwater harvesting systems are an accredited part of the ECA scheme. This means that business clients can offset up to 100% of the taxable cost and installation of our systems from their tax bill at the end of the year.
This fantastic scheme is a huge incentive for the construction industry to incorporate, as standard, rainwater harvesting systems. The government are trying to ensure that rainwater recycling systems are no longer removed from building specifications to reduce costs, as water conservation and flood risk reduction has such an important part to play in the future of new building and our environment.
